There are many ways the students at Vanguard Prep School exemplify the qualities of good citizenship, community involvement, and leadership among their peers. During the week of April 24-28 of this year, our lower school students demonstrated even more ways to shine as they participated in the

ST. JUDE TRIKE-A-THON

The St. Jude Trike-A-Thon is a week-long event in which students raise money to benefit the children undergoing treatment at St. Jude Research Hospital. While working towards earning donations, students spend the school week learning riding toy safety in full-filled lessons. The week then concludes with an exciting trike-a-thon where students get to show off their riding knowledge and skills on their scooters, tricycles, and bicycles.

ON FRIDAY APRIL 28TH, STUDENTS FINALLY GOT A CHANCE TO SHOW OFF THEIR TALENTS.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that the occasion was truly a blast for all participants. For the event, a riding course was created in the school parking lot and each class was individually invited to get moving. Not only did the students have a great time “racing”, but so many characteristics that make our students wonderful were displayed throughout their races. Teamwork and encouragement amongst friends was observed by all classes. For students that took tumbles, their classmates were right there to make sure their friends were unhurt. The compassion and love for their fellow students is what truly made this event stand out.

In addition to outstanding sportsmanship demonstrated from the lower school students; middle school and high school students were also in attendance and served as cheerleaders for the riders. Upper school students created posters to wave and chanted original cheers to motivate their peers. With their presence and positive attitudes, the upper school students managed to heighten the level of excitement and energy at the trike-a-thon.

Overall, the week was such a positive experience for all participants. And most importantly, our students managed to raise almost $800.00 that will directly benefit the truly deserving children at St. Jude’s. Due to raising the most donations over the course of the week, special thanks and recognition need to be given to Ashley Peters, Christoforos Massalas, and Charlie Heckett. We also send a big thank you to all students and parents who took an active interest in this cause.

THE STAFF AT VANGUARD ARE SO PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND CARING SPIRIT.
