When a child learns differently, or at a different pace, large classrooms simply can’t provide the individual attention required. Our small class sizes, therapeutic support and individualized curriculum allow for a student to shine in favorite subjects and struggle less with others. Vanguard’s curriculum is a developmental learning model and operates on a mastery level philosophy. As soon as students master one instructional objective, they are moved to the next.

We know that social emotional health is a leading indicator of student success. Effective skills are taught in twice weekly therapy groups, led by staff therapists. These groups focus on self-discovery, values clarification, interpersonal relationships, community service and leadership skills. Students learn to express emotions appropriately, to problem solve and cope with challenges of being a teen. Groups are supported throughout the day by teachers through modeling, coaching and direct intervention.
